This Privacy Policy explains how SnapCount (“SnapCount”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use the SnapCount app for iPhone and iPad and its related services, including this website (together, the “Service”). SnapCount is developed and operated by Nexdev, which is responsible for your information under this policy. You can reach us at support@nexdev.codes.

At a glance

A short summary. The full policy below is what applies.

  • Your photos are used to count. Each photo you count is sent to our server and to third-party AI providers (through OpenRouter to Google Gemini, with OpenAI as a fallback). It’s saved in your history until you delete it.
  • No ads, no selling, no tracking. We don’t show ads, sell your information or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
  • No sign-up needed. SnapCount works with an automatic guest account. An email account is optional.
  • Analytics help us improve. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used.
  • You’re in control. Delete counts in the app, delete your account, or ask us to delete all of your data.

01Information We Collect

Link to section: Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to run SnapCount. Each item is explained in more detail in the sections that follow.

Information you provide

  • Photos you take or choose to count.
  • Counts and organization: your count results, the notes you add, and the collections you create and save counts to.
  • Account details, only if you create an email account: your email address and password (stored only as a secure hash).
  • Messages to support, including the technical details the app adds to the email (see Device and Technical Information).

Information collected automatically

  • A random account identifier created for your guest or email account.
  • Usage information, such as the screens and features you use.
  • Device and technical information, such as your device model, operating system, app version, IP address and device identifiers.

Information from partners

  • Purchase information from Apple through our subscription provider RevenueCat, such as which subscription you have and whether it’s active. We never receive your payment card details.
  • AI results generated from your photo by our AI providers (see AI Counting).

Information we don’t collect

We don’t ask for your name, phone number or contacts, we don’t request access to your location, microphone or whole photo library, and we don’t use facial recognition.

02Photos and Camera

Link to section: Photos and Camera

SnapCount asks for permission to use your camera so you can photograph the objects you want to count. To use an existing picture, you choose it in the system photo picker; SnapCount only receives the photo you pick and doesn’t need access to your photo library. You can change camera permission at any time in your device settings. Without it, you can still count photos from your gallery.

What happens to a photo

  • Camera photos are taken at about 1280 × 720 pixels and uploaded as taken.
  • Gallery photos are resized to at most 1920 pixels. If the result is larger than about 500 KB, the app compresses it further before upload.
  • The photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which sends it to our AI providers for counting.
  • If the photo can be counted, we store it with its result in your history so you can view it later, along with small preview images. If it can’t be counted, we don’t store it, but it has already been processed by our AI providers.
  • Deleting a count deletes its stored photo and previews.

Photo metadata

Photos can contain embedded metadata (EXIF), such as the date, the camera model or, for photos from your gallery, the place a picture was taken, if your camera recorded it. This metadata may remain in the uploaded photo, in which case it’s stored with your count and sent to our AI providers along with the photo. Compression removes it, but not every photo is compressed. If you don’t want to share a photo’s location, turn off location for your camera, or take the photo with SnapCount’s camera, which doesn’t record location.

People in photos

SnapCount counts objects. If a photo contains people, they may be counted, but SnapCount never identifies them and doesn’t use facial recognition. Please only photograph people when you’re allowed to, and avoid documents, screens and other personal information.

03AI Counting

Link to section: AI Counting

SnapCount uses third-party artificial intelligence (AI) to count objects in your photos and to write its results. By choosing to count a photo, you ask us to share it with these providers for that purpose.

How a count works

  • Our server sends your photo, our counting instructions and the app’s language to OpenRouter, a service that routes requests to AI model providers.
  • Requests are handled by a Google Gemini model. If that model fails or is unavailable, an OpenAI model is used instead. OpenRouter may choose among the companies that host these models to answer quickly.
  • We don’t send your name, email address or account identifier to the AI providers.
  • The model returns the count, the position of each counted object, a confidence score, notes on photo quality and a short summary. We save this in your history.

What the AI providers do with it

These providers process requests under their own terms and privacy policies. According to those policies: OpenRouter doesn’t log request content by default and doesn’t use it for training; Google doesn’t use paid Gemini API requests to train its models and may keep them for up to 55 days to detect abuse; and OpenAI doesn’t use API requests for training by default and may keep them for up to 30 days to detect abuse. Providers may process requests in the United States and other countries.

Shared counting guides

After a count, SnapCount may write a general guide for the type of object (for example, how to spot one and how to count it). Guides are generated from the object’s name, category and language only. They’re stored in a shared library and may be shown to anyone who counts similar objects. They never contain your photo, your count, your notes or anything that identifies you.

Training and human review

We don’t use your photos or counts to train AI models. Results are generated automatically; we only look at a specific count if you ask us to, for example when you contact support about it, or when needed to investigate abuse or fix a problem.

AI results can be wrong

Counts, confidence scores and guides are AI-generated estimates, not certified counts. See the AI Counting Disclaimer in our Terms of Use.

04Your Account

Link to section: Your Account

You don’t need to sign up to use SnapCount, and we never ask for your name.

  • Guest account. The first time you open the app, our server creates a guest account with a random identifier so your counts can be saved. The credentials for it are kept in your device’s secure storage (the iOS Keychain), which may keep them even if you delete and reinstall the app.
  • Email account (optional). If you create an account, we add your email address and a hashed password to the same account, so your existing counts stay with you and you can sign in on another device. We use your email to sign you in, to send password-reset links and to send security messages about your account. We don’t send marketing emails.
  • Signing out starts a new guest account on your device. Your previous account and its counts stay available when you sign in again.

Without an email account, your counts are tied to your guest account on this device and may not be recoverable if you lose access to it.

05Usage Information and Analytics

Link to section: Usage Information and Analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase, provided by Google, to understand how SnapCount is used and to improve it. It records:

  • screens viewed, and actions such as opening the subscription screen, starting or completing a purchase, exporting a count, signing in, creating an account and signing out;
  • app opens, sessions, engagement and app updates, which Firebase collects automatically.

If you have an email account, your account identifier is attached to analytics data so we can count usage by account. Analytics data is never linked to your name, and we don’t use it for advertising. To learn how Google uses this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

SnapCount doesn’t currently offer a setting to turn off analytics.

06Device and Technical Information

Link to section: Device and Technical Information

When you use SnapCount, we and our service providers receive technical information such as:

  • your device model, operating system and version, the app version, and your language and region settings;
  • your IP address, which our servers and providers receive when your device connects to them. Firebase uses it to estimate your general location, such as your country or city;
  • identifiers such as the Firebase app-instance ID and your device’s identifier for apps from the same developer (IDFV). RevenueCat also receives device identifiers to manage purchases.

Our server keeps technical logs of requests (such as the time, the address requested, the result and your IP address) to operate and secure the Service.

SnapCount doesn’t show ads and doesn’t ask for permission to track you, so your device’s advertising identifier isn’t available to the app or its providers.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, SnapCount schedules reminders on your device, for example a weekly reminder to count something, while you don’t have SnapCount Pro. They’re created on your device, not sent from our servers, and you can turn them off at any time in your device settings.

Contacting support

When you contact us from Profile › Help & Support, the app prepares an email that includes your account email (or your guest account identifier), the account type, the platform, the app version and the time. These details help us find your data and assist you. You can review or remove them before sending.
